Women to uphold half of the Sky

Latest statistics from the US indicate that women held 49.9% of the nation’s jobs, excluding farm workers and the self-employed, as of September 2009 . This sees a marked increase from 35% recorded in 1970. More importantly, women are either the sole earner or make as much as or more than their male spouse in 4 out of 10 US families with children under 18.

Nevertheless, the median earning of a full-time working woman is USD35,745 compare to USD46,367 for man.

Hong Kong statistics for 2006 indicate that 49.3% of the work force is women. Women earned more than men in the managerial, administrative & professional sector, while median pay is still below their male counterparts in other categories. They also earning less based on comparisons with similar academic background.

Apparently, the famous saying of Chairman Mao that Women can uphold half of the Sky is a close reality ~~ only some 60 years after he made the statement.
